Virtual Interviewing Tips & Tricks

In order to keep our employees, employment candidates, customers, and communities safe, many of our areas have transitioned to virtual interviewing solutions. We understand that this may be a new process for you, so our Talent team has developed a list of tips and best practices in order to help you be successful during your virtual interview.

Best Practices for a Virtual Interview

​​​​​​

  • Test your technology the day before and the morning of the interview to check for audio and video malfunctions. 


  • Login to the meeting at least 5 minutes before your scheduled time.


  • Dress appropriately for the position in which you are interviewing.


  • Be sure you are in a quiet space and minimize all distractions (Television, Radio, etc.)


  • Be in a well-lit area. Be sure to have light in front of you so that you can be seen by the interviewer!


  • Practice your answers! Focus on hitting the main points.


  • Before anwering the interviewer's question, pause to create your answer, and to ensure that the interviewer is done speaking. Be cognizant of connection delays.


  • Do your research on the company and the position.


  • Be aware of your facial expressions and body posture. Make eye contact with the camera.

  • Did you test your device and have audio malfunctions? No problem! Dial into the meeting from your phone using the toll-free # provided in the invite! 


  • Silence notifications on your electronic devices.


  • Ask relevant questions, and have questions prepared before your interview.

  • Be yourself!

  • Video chat with a friend before your interview! (Facetime, Skype, Zoom, etc.)Practice! Practice! Practice!


  • Cover your screen so that you can only see the camera. This will help you not to look at yourself throughout the interview!


  • Be clear and concise when speaking
